Meet Collen...

I'd like to introduce u to an inspiring super cool friend of mine Collen Nxumalo. Born and breed in Nelpruit at Kanyamazane, Collen is making his or so very visible mark in SA as a writter. He has  been nominated for 3 awards namely: Gordimer Short Story Award, Best Poetry Award and First Time Published Author Award in the SA Literary Awards 2013 for his Book entitled : from This Point

1.   Tell us a lil about yourself. Who is Collen Nxumalo?

Mmmhh let’s see… Collen Nxumalo is a skinny brother born & raised in a township called Lekazi in Nelspruit. So ambitious & just like everybody that has big dreams, I want to see them come true, I love kids a lot and my biggest dream is to setup a kids community center in my hometown that will have all the arts facilities, libraries, theatre, etc … I believe we should have more of those than to have lots of shisa-nyama spots then blame the kids for being otherwise.

2."From this point"......tell us about it.

-
From This Point is my pride, it will be my loved project forever, it is my 1st published book that follows this young ghetto boy’s life battling to find his God given talent and put it to use & that boy is me, it is semi based on my life and has fiction too,  it has poetry as well, I wanted to do something different, when I started writing the book, I was doing From This Point the story & not poetry, but as the story advances ‘Sibusiso’ (which is my second name) the lead character in the story discovers his talent in arts & so I decided to put on my collection of poetry in the book, the poetry is real life experiences, things that I went through and things that are saw other people going through, so the poetry in From This Point is deep and real."I believe success is a journey and each journey has to start somewhere, so yeah there’s no other place to begin your journey to success than From This Point (which the point you currently at)

3. Do u ever get writers block? Tell us what exactly happens and when going through it how u deal with such.
Oh yes I do get Writer’s block, I believe every writer does. I like writing about real stuff that’s going around the world, so every time I get writer’s block I just hit the road or go chill with friends or go partying and get some real inspiration and experience from/on what’s going on around and come back and put it on paper, sometime I’d just take out my phone & make a note of what I’m seeing at the place I’m currently at so not to forget and when I get home I write about it.
4. What are u currently working on?
I finished my 2nd book Titled Heaven Is A better Place which was supposed to be out in February 2013 but due to the lot of things going on around From This Point the new one will be out by July, I’m also working on a tour with American actress, model & author Angela Ardis for her book titled Inside A thug’s Heart about her & the late rapper Tupac Shakur. She did the foreword for my 1st & 2nd book. I’ve also launched my company From This Point Foundation that will cater for artists, the 1st artist with the company is me  & now we just got a music artist by the name of Flexi which From This Point Foundation will be releasing his album this year.

5. You have this obsession with hot wingz. Lol. What's with that?
lol Hot Wings … that’s like my girlfriend forever on my hands & lips lol …. I love hot wings, you know since I stay alone and can’t cook, that’s how I got introduced to hot wings, easy bucks menu lol.
